The ISA11, called the Repetition Separator, indicates how repeated elements in a segment are separated in versions 00403 and above. In older versions, it was used as a component element separator. The repetition separator must be a valid ASCII character.
- When troubleshooting the ISA11, consider the following:
- The ISA11 must be different than the ISA16 (element separator)
- The ISA11 must be different than the ISA18 (segment terminator)
- Characters in the ISA11 must not be a non-printable or control character
- The ISA11 is a fixed 1 character length and should not be more or less than 1 character
- Some trading partners may expect or require a specific character for the ISA11
Recommended Action: Review the ISA11 element in your ISA segment.
